Hello again, in accordance with my promise to carry on
trying to blog more regularly here is another entry from me!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Third year has been pretty mental so far.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Academically it’s
going well and I am actually relatively enjoying it. There is more work, a lot
more work, but I do feel more confident in doing it. It’s so surreal to think that I have nine
weeks left of teaching… mental. On the plus side, interestingly, one of the
projects I’m currently looking at is how the CIA smuggled and sold crack cocaine in LA to
raise money to support rebel fighters fighting against a Government they didn’t
like*… mental. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Like I just said, I only have nine weeks of teaching left
(as my lectures like to keep on reminding me) and within those nine weeks,
there is so much to be done! I have four big projects to do, exams to revise
for, a social life to try and keep, hockey to hopefully play, money needed to
be earned, future jobs and careers to look for, family vacation to New York and
my charity work with the RAG society… mental. Attached is a flyer I designed
for the Jailbreak I’m organising (which I spoke about in my last blog) if anyone actually
fancies looking further into it. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
So my list of things to do can only be described as stressful and I think
it may be mental to say that I’m actually looking forward to it all. While no
doubt I will be stressed, grumpy and unbelievably over-worked I am somewhat
eager to work through it all though and see where the future takes me.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

<div class="MsoNormal">
I say this now; give it till the next entry and I’ll
probably be pulling my hair out. Don’t worry, my hair is unbelievably thick which annoyingly means I need to get my hair cut and thinned out every two
months but on the plus side, I’ll probably never go bald! <o:p></o:p></div>

Until next time, enjoy!<o:p></o:p></div>

<span style="font-size: 10.5pt; line-height: 150%;">So it’s been a while! I do apologise from my
absence in blogging. I guess during summer with the pressures of work, social
life and making the most of the weather and the freedom it provides I just fell
out of habit with blogging.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 8.55pt; margin-left: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 10.5pt; line-height: 150%;">But so much has happened! I started my third
year, which I am actually quite enjoying it. Although as my lecturer said
yesterday, I only have 10 weeks left! It’s quite surreal that University will
be over in quite literally ten weeks. Oh, what am I to do with myself?!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 8.55pt; margin-left: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 10.5pt; line-height: 150%;">But onto happier subjects! As part of my third
year course, I chose to do a work placement instead of a dissertation. That was
fun. I got to work in a local secondary school helping out in class and
teaching kids’ history. Although I still have to do a reflective log and a
4,000 word project. I’ll still rather that than a dissertation.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 8.55pt; margin-left: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 10.5pt; line-height: 150%;">I also went skiing! At the University within the
Student’s Union, we have a Snowsports society which regularly organises skiing
trips across Europe. I went with them to Val Thoren in France and thoroughly
enjoyed it. Even though it was my first time, I actually picked it up quite
quickly. And I didn’t seriously injure myself! So that’s nice. 5,000
students, one resort, it was mental. I’ve attached some of the family friendly
photos for you all to see!<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 10.5pt; line-height: 150%;">This year I’ve also taken a step away from the Climbing and
Mountaineering society, I was president of last year to become an Events
Co-ordinator for the Raise and Give (RAG) society. We quite literally make money
in various ways and give it to charity. Simple, eh? Some of the events I have
already organised have been a very successful pub crawl (with another on
Thursday) and I’m in the midst of organising a Jailbreak.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 10.5pt; line-height: 150%;"> What’s a Jailbreak? Well,
people have 36 six hours to hitchhike as far as possible away from campus. They
can’t spend any money and the people who get the furthest win! </span><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">You can read all about it here: </span><a href="http://www.facebook.com/GREJailbreak"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">www.facebook.com/GREJailbreak</span></a><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";"><o:p></o:p></span></div>

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Jy19HGBbkSw/U9oIIirSCmI/AAAAAAAAHNg/cKx1WFmwfGY/s1600/carney+clearing.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Jy19HGBbkSw/U9oIIirSCmI/AAAAAAAAHNg/cKx1WFmwfGY/s1600/carney+clearing.jpeg" height="200" width="200" /></a><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">Hey guys! This blog is going to be all about the UCAS process known as Clearing. For those of you who don’t know Clearing is something that you are entered into when you do not hold any UCAS offers of a place at University. Once you are in Clearing you can contact universities individually to see if they will accept you onto their course.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">Clearing is a very high pressured and daunting situation. You have hundreds of thousands of potential students all fighting over the last few remaining places at university. Yet, there’s no reason to fear or to worry or to stress out, as long as you properly prepare and think about your actions!</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">Research what university you want to go to properly and what course you want to undertake. Ultimately it’s your choice to make as it’s your degree and you who pays the tuition loan so make sure you pick the choice that’s right for you!</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">There are plenty of good independent websites online that will provide you with impartial and accurate information about what university you want to do and where a certain course can take you in terms of your career and educational progressions. Once you have selected the universities and courses that you wish to apply for, then get prepared! Get all your affairs in order, so when you contact the university you can give them your UCAS number and then hopefully they can take an application from you and you can get a place. You also have to make sure that when contacting universities that you are actually in Clearing, i.e. you’re not holding offers or referred to any other institutions. You know you are in Clearing as it will say on your |UCAS track status: ‘In Clearing’.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">Ultimately, it doesn’t hurt to be prepared. If you are worried about receiving your results on August 16th, it doesn’t hurt to spend a few hours already online, looking at alternative universities and courses. So that if the worse should happen on results day, you are already prepared!</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">I hope that this little nugget of advice helps all of you who are reading this. Finally remember, the only stupid questions are the ones you don’t ask…</span></div>

Sorry it has taken me so long to write this blog. If truth be told I have sat down several times to start writing this and always somehow get distracted and or somehow lose what I have already done.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5B55NtbySIk/U9oCH20mtfI/AAAAAAAAHNM/elOeues_JeQ/s1600/carney+scottish_highlands.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5B55NtbySIk/U9oCH20mtfI/AAAAAAAAHNM/elOeues_JeQ/s1600/carney+scottish_highlands.jpg" height="212" width="320" /></a>It has been a mental month since we last spoke. I believe my last entry was when I was on the train to Edinburgh to begin what turned into a stressful yet very enjoyable three weeks of escorting my American delegation around the UK and Ireland. We started off touring around Scotland, in the Scottish Highlands, White Water River rafting and learning about Scottish culture. We then caught the ferry (my first time on a ferry) across the water to Northern Ireland. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
When we were there we learnt about the troubles that had plagued Belfast in the past and also got to visit the Northern Ireland parliament, Stormont, which was a very impressive building. From Belfast down to Dublin in the Republic of Ireland where we spent a few days staying with local families and learning about traditional Gaelic sports like Gaelic football and hurling. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
From Ireland onto another ferry across to Wales, where we spent a couple of nights staying at the base of Mount Snowden. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
From Wales across the border to Chester and then down to Warwick where we had an exclusive medieval themed night at Warwick castle which ended with the world’s largest trebuchet firing a massive ball of fire. Then we ended our three week tour in London doing the traditional things such as a tour, the London Eye and a theatre show.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
While the above may all sound very glamorous, looking after thirty people and being responsible for carrying out the packed pre-arranged itinerary was very hard and tiring work. Although it was a very rewarding experience in which I got to meet some very impressive young adults from Arizona.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zGMflfJ2yUY/U9oCHya4qNI/AAAAAAAAHNI/qx3ZQNTUu3c/s1600/carney+Snowdonia.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zGMflfJ2yUY/U9oCHya4qNI/AAAAAAAAHNI/qx3ZQNTUu3c/s1600/carney+Snowdonia.jpg" height="196" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Coming home to a house than I had previously only spent one night in before going travelling was a strange experience which made coming home all the more difficult. However once I settled into work again, and began to start to have a routine, it became easier. Now I spend my days working 9 till 5 in the Enquiry Unit helping callers with whatever may be the problem.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
I always like my entries to have a purpose and this one is no different. I was only able to go travelling round the UK and Ireland for three weeks and getting paid too because I said yes. When an external company came to the university to give an employee presentation, I went, listened, made notes, realised that this is something I want to go and so I did. Once I realised I wanted to do it I put all my effort into doing so, to achieve my goals. I believe that is something that can apply to numerous aspects in life. If you really want something, then take it. Do whatever you need to do to achieve your goals. That can also be applied to Clearing which I’ll speak about in my next post.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
So long for now chums!</div>

Hello people, care to guess where I am? Well to be perfectly
honest, I do not really know… I am on a train to Edinburgh. We went passed
Newcastle about 25 minutes ago and we are due in Edinburgh in about 35 minutes.
Apart from that I have no idea where I am…</div>

Yesterday I moved into my very first
house. Obviously not the very first house that I have ever lived in, but the
very first house that has ever been mine (well it’s not technically mine, but I
do rent it nonetheless). Moving house is always stressful, regardless of what
stages of your life you are in. As ever, I like to have a useful message in my
ramblings. This entry is no different. The most useful advice I can offer in
terms of moving house is, limit the amount of stuff you have! It’s amazing how
much stuff you can accumulate without even realising it! Especially someone
like me who has a ridiculous amount of stuff, and no apparent reason for most
of it. And so, when you move into a house or even in or out of halls for that
matter, the more stuff you have the more difficult, tiresome and tedious moving
is. Especially in my situation where no one in my family actually drives,
therefore I am forced to rely on the kindness of friends… My ridiculous amount
of stuff surprisingly does not entice anyone into helping me… And so, try to
limit the amount of stuff you bring with you to university. While it may be
very nice to have all of your home and creature comforts surrounding you, you
then have to move everything into a place only to move it all out again 9
months later!</div>

As for me; why am I on a train to Scotland I hear you
ask? Well for the next three weeks I
shall be escorting 30 American high schoolers and their teachers around the
UK and Ireland for work. Just to iterate, this isn’t for the university but an
outside company. My role is somewhat stressful, long and underpaid but I handle
the program and the logistics. Making sure that the extensive pre-booked and
pre-arranged educational and cultural program is followed extensively. The
money may not be great, but it is a fantastic opportunity to meet new people,
see more of the country I live in and do some really cool activities, so that
compensates it. <o:p></o:p></div>

So travelling around Spain was pretty cool… I spent a week
near a place called Murcia on the Spanish coast lazing by the pool and the
beach. Originally I thought that I would hate it, just lying there not actually
doing anything but I actually really enjoyed it. That could be just because
that I had a good book and the weather was amazing. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Then after a week by the pool, I headed off to Madrid for a
few days all by myself... This was the
first time I had ever been travelling by myself. All the previous trips I’ve
been on around Europe had always been with a friend. I’m not going to lie, I
was pretty scared….<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
But all my fears turned out to be unfounded. When I
eventually arrived in my hostel in Madrid (after several travel complications)
I immediately made friends with people all over the world. It’s quite
interesting that the social norms are completely different when you’re
travelling, it’s perfectly acceptable just to go and talk to a random person,
simply because you and they are in the same place and speak a mutual language. I experience the local culture in numerous
ways, savoured the nightlife (which was immense) and checked out a few
churches, cathedrals and museums.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
It’s funny though, whenever you go away from home, you spend
so long adjusting to a new place or situation. You finally adjust and almost
settle into a routine and then you go home! It feels like you were last at home
an age ago rather than just a few days.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I’ve attached a few pictures just to show you all and make
you jealous. But I got my comeuppance when coming back from Madrid, my flight
was delayed by four and a half hours! Damn you Ryanair. This meant that I had
missed all the trains back to London from Stansted airport and instead had to
trek home using a variety of buses and coaches. I got home at 4.30AM despite
arriving at the airport in Madrid at 4.00PM<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I’ve now got a week of full time work ahead, while trying to
move house and while trying to prepare for going travelling for three weeks for
work (not uni work) with 40 American children in town!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
I’ll try and submit a quick post before I leave next week.
Enjoy the pictures. Bye! <o:p></o:p></div>

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">Hello my friends, as the title of
this entry may suggest, the academic year (for me at least) is now over! My
exams are done, I’ve passed the year with a 2:1 (just) and I go to Spain next</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">

week, with the term ending, several friends having birthdays and my summer
ball just gone on the previous Friday. They had bumper cars at the summer ball,
which was hilarious and also quite sickening.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;"><br /></span></div>

week in London, in which I have to work and move house before then going away
for another three weeks. This time it’s for work! So at least I’ll be earning
money as opposed to spending it – which is always nice I suppose.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">

spend the next two months working full time for the university. Which for some
reason I am actually looking forward to – the university and my office (the
Enquiry Unit) move into a period known as Clearing. It’s hard work, intense, long,
tiresome but ultimately it is quite fun and a good laugh.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">As ever I always like my entries to
have a useful message and this one is no exception. My piece of useful advice
this time is to make use of the summer. Make use of the two/three months you
have free and plan for the next year. That could be either working or gaining
experience (and money), doing an internship or preparing for your course via
reading and researching. Just any additional work that could be put in is good until
September starts and summer sadly comes to a close. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 10.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">So that’s it really, I’ll try and check
in while I can. Enjoy the sun! (when it is actually out). <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">So just another short and simple update from me. I’ve done two out of
three of my exams! I’ve gotten the two harder ones out of the way and now I
only have one left.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">I’ll be so happy once I finish my exams, things are just a lot easier.
Nor can I wait for Summer! Longer days, better weather and everyone is just
happier.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">I just have one exam left and that is my politics exam. It may be weird
but I am actually looking forward to this exam. That may be because it’s simply
my last exam or the fact that I am quietly confident about it. Which has
absolutely nothing to do with the fact that my lecture told us all the exam
questions in advance – what an awesome guy! If only all my lecturers were so
kind, it’ll sure make my life a whole lot easier...<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

I and a
few friends are going to one of my friend’s family villa in Murcia. It’s
nothing special, but I’m just looking forward to lounging by the pool for a
week literally doing nothing after the stress of the last month. We’re only in
Murcia for the week, then all my friends are going back to London and for some
reason I’m going to go travelling by myself for a few days. I plan mainly to go
to Madrid. I am looking forward to it, but it is the first time I’ll be going
travelling by myself… It is quite scary but at least it is only for three or
four days and I have found a fantastic ‘party’ hostel, so that should be
interesting! <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Also
found out some interesting stats today about my blog... In total I have posted
eleven times (excluding this one) and had over 600 page views! Neat, huh?!
(Side tangent: does anyone actually use neat in that context anymore? I think
more people should). How many of those page views are my lecturers checking up
on what I’m saying about them or my family checking up what I am saying about
them/doing with myself at university is yet to be seen… <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Anyway,
that was just a cheeky little update. I’ll try and post again before I jet off
to Spain!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Peace.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">DISCLAIMER:
I would just like to point out that I pay for all of these little holidays and

(Again)<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Ahhh man, it’s that time of year
when everything is drawing to a close and everyone is just looking <o:p></o:p></div>
forward to
finishing and embracing summer. Only one slight problem, before that can
happen, first we must endure and hopefully past the dreaded exams. <br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Exams are a pain and that’s no
lie. They were a pain at school, a pain at College and still a pain at University.
Sadly unless you’re clever enough to choose to do a subject which is entirely
coursework based and thus avoid exams, then you just have to suck up and deal
with it. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
University exams do differ
massively from A-levels. Firstly, your exam is unlikely to be the only assessment
you have for one subject. This means that by working out the scores you got in
your coursework, you should be able to go into the exam knowing or at least
having some indication of how you have done over all. This is reassuring, trust
me. Because even if the exam and the questions asked turn out to be total poo,
you know that it’s not the end of the world and even if you fail the exam, you
probably will still pass the course. Neat eh?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Like many of my post, I think
when it comes to exams is just to be clever and think about it. That might
sounds redundant and obvious, but let me explain. Be clever about how much work
you’re going to have to do in terms about revising, think about the best revising
method which is suited to your learning style. See, it all makes sense now. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8JZ1yC_xYnM/U1--C4utU_I/AAAAAAAAGvc/iuH7tAn67rc/s1600/bart+revision.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8JZ1yC_xYnM/U1--C4utU_I/AAAAAAAAGvc/iuH7tAn67rc/s1600/bart+revision.gif" /></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
So as you can probably imagine,
I’m currently in revision mode. I actually want to do my exams and get them over
and done with, simply because I am so tired and god damn bored of revision!
Once I've finished my exams I am finished for the year! Woo. To celebrate, I
and some friends are going to Spain for a week. After which there all going
back to London and I am spending an additional few days travelling round Spain
by myself... which should be interesting!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
I thought I’ll spend a little bit of time
relaxing before having commit myself to spending the whole of the summer
working full time to financially compensate for my somewhat lavish lifestyle. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<br />

So that’s just a little update
for now and some advice from my perspective. I’ll check in, in a few weeks.
Hopefully I’ll make it through exam season alive and unscathed. Wish me luck,
yeah?<o:p></o:p></div>

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">Good, I am glad. I am also well. I have finally submitted all of my
coursework! However unfortunately I still have exams to revise for, so sadly I am
not totally free, at least not yet...<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">I still am however ridiculously busy still. This week in addition of working, starting revision, I also have family visiting which I have to
entertain, fun. But no, that is me just being cynical and harsh; Of course it
is nice to have family visiting, just at a very annoying time somewhat.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">Anyway, in my previous blogs I have mentioned about the Student Union
elections. In every university, the Students Union is a democratically elected
body. Elected by students for students. This is the second year that I was
involved in the elections. The first I was simply campaigning for my friend's
political party, who I actually did think were the best people for the job.
This year however I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to run
myself as a part time officer. I was elected Volunteering Officer by a majority and I am very happy with this position. As a part time officer, I will have this role in addition
to completing my third year of study. What will I do as Volunteering Officer?
Well, that is a good question. It is a new role that has only been introduced
this year, so I don't really have any predecessors to compare myself to; which
is good and bad I suppose. Nevertheless I do have a few things lined up and I
am looking forward to getting stuck in.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">Student Union elections are a fantastic opportunity to get further
involved in your union and make an actual and positive change. It's neither as
scary nor intense as you may thing, while having a good political understanding
is helpful. The Union will support you by offering seminars and presentations
about the elections to give you the best possible chance. Similar to a real
election, you have to write your own manifestos, attend and speak at Candidate
Question Times (also known as hustings) and have a limited amount of resources,
so you have to be clever about the options you make. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">To finish off, I would highly recommend getting involved in your
Student’s Union. Never ever in your life will you have access to an
organisation like this that exists purely for your benefit. So whether it’s
working for them, helping run a sports team or the committee, or standing for
election, it all benefits you! It gives you skills, opportunities and chances
that you’re never get elsewhere in your life.</span></div>

Hello my friends!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I am so sorry that it has been so long since my last entry,
I have literally been swamped! In addition to having to work (to earn enough
money to offset my ridiculous expenditure), keep on top of university work (easier
said than done), maintain commitments to sports teams, friends and family, and
still fit in some sleep is a mighty challenge!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
So just to catch you all up, in terms of uni work it’s been
pretty hectic, at the moment it’s just one assignment after another and it’s
just so tiresome! But I guess it all be worth it in the end (or so he says). I am about to do a 4,000 word
project on the Chislehurst Caves which should be fairly interesting and I got a
first in my politics essay/presentation! If only I got similar marks in all my
other courses…<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Hockey fortunately hasn't preoccupied much of my time,
fortunately we’re coming to the end of the season and not many games left... We
did win our last game 22-0 though! Which was quite cool. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I've also started to learn how to drive! Growing up in
London previously I never needed too nor had the excess money to learn how to
drive, but I thought I will while at university. Putting my loan to good use at
least! And I haven’t seriously crashed or injured anyone yet, so going well!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
It’s also election time in my SU, which is very exciting. Voting
is very important as is the SU at any University. Details can be found here: <a href="http://www.suug.co.uk/elections2014/">http://www.suug.co.uk/elections2014/</a><o:p></o:p></div>

Also, not to make you all jealous, I’m going to Rome next
Thursday! I and my friend are visiting for a long weekend and I can’t wait.
Just to escape the horrors and terrors of everyday urban life and just escape
for an isolated weekend. Rest assured I will be posting excessive pictures and
tales and such.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Finally, I must apologise again for how long it’s taken me
to post another update, I will try and be better! But, because I know so many
of you must be worryingly yourself silly, Eric is okay! Eric the office avocado
plant is healthy, well, and striving. He even had a play date yesterday with a
friend. <o:p></o:p></div>

Hello again my beautiful people, how are you all? Good, I’m
glad. I myself are shattered to b honest. I got back from a long weekend in
Amsterdam last night and now spending my day working. Needless to say, I am
tired. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Amsterdam though was really cool, the people, the city, the
drinks. It is quite amazing how much
Amsterdam as a city differs from that of London. For example, there roads are
split into three, one for bikes, one for trams and buses and the other for
cars. Bike is by far the most common form of transport and pretty much every
single person has one. It’s the easiest and most convenient way to get around the city. If only London
adopted a Dutch attitude to cycling, it would make my life easier and not to
mention safer! I and my friends did go to the Anne Frank house, which was very
interesting and moving, very surreal as well. We also went to the sex museum
which again was interesting but also very, very strange. We all also ate a lot
of cake and drank a lot of coffee. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I am quite happy to be home though; my European travels have
worn me out. However it is slightly depressing that now I am home I have to
work and I still have a 1500 word assignment to do! How depressing, eh? It gets
even worse; I still have the majority of my Christmas shopping to do… That I am
sure will not be very pleasant nor fun and somewhat quite expensive. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
With all of my blog entry’s, I always like to have a useful
message, which as of late they haven’t. So Carney’s (yes I did just refer to
myself in the third person) useful tip or warning if you take it that way, is o
make as much use of the Christmas holidays as possible. Yes it is nice not
being at university or school, but make use of the time. While it is always
nice to have a lazy day, I am very looking forward to having one on Saturday,
it’s also important to be proactive. So perhaps for ever lazy day you have,
have a day of work. Or as I like to try to do (and normally fail) is to try and
do something every day, whether or not it’s a blog entry like this or replying
to email’s, just make sure you do something and not fall into a slum!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
And finally, no blog would be complete without a Eric
update. He is growing strong and healthy and developing well. He’s tired and
stressed as we all are and can’t wait for the university to close for a good
few weeks so he can get a nice rest and get some sleep. Hopefully someone will
still feed him…<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

So I got back from France last night, I spent a few days
there and their neighbours Belgium. Despite the hours on the coach it was
actually a really good trip. I think the worse part would definitely have to be
the singing on the coach, after two minutes it became tiresome and dire, I
compensated with putting in my iPod and blocking the world out. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The first day was spent in Belgium and we went to the Mein
Gate, followed by the night and two days in France. We visited several
memorials and graves, ranging from German cemeteries to British, to French and
to Anglo-French cemeteries. We also visited the National French memorial, where
over 40,000 people are buried, and an incredible amount of fallen soldiers. It
was all an incredible humbling experience and some of the memorials are
breath-takingly pretty, however their beauty is bitter sweet given the purpose
of them.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
We were also able to go the site of the Somme, again that
was incredible but we were also able to go into persevered British and German
trenches and it was shocking to see how close they actually were to each other!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
It was also very interesting, the difference in the
memorials and the cemeteries. For example, the difference between French and British
cemeteries, the length and the effort the British went too, to honour their
dead despite harsh opposition and a troubled economy. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
In the night we went for meals, I had some mussels, they
were nice. They hotel was also nice and the drinks cheap. I was very happy. Not
as happy as when we went to the local French supermarket and I was let loose on
the BN’s, Lays and the ridiculously cheap alcohol (it’s the simple things in
life). <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
All in all it was an amazing trip, and one I would
recommend. It was organised by the History department, for a reasonable price. It
was a complex itinerary and must have been a hell of a trip to plan. However
to all of the lectures and staff credit it was a smooth and very slick
operation. I would just like to say how grateful I am for them organising this
trip and giving me the opportunity to go and to be able to see how amazing and
humbling things that I would not be forgetting in a hurry. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Tomorrow I go to Amsterdam! This time with friends, not the
university, if you, my glamorous readers can control yourself until my return I
shall give you the pleasure of another blog.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

recently, with work, university, more work and trying to have a social life,
it’s all been pretty packed! It’s quite
frustrating that all my assignments have all seemed to come at once but that’s
just life. It’s even more frustrating that I’m in my second year now so it does

<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
But things are going well though!
I am looking forward to Christmas, just chilling out, relaxing, not actually
doing anything with myself… Should probably start shopping for presents for my
family… Any suggestions for presents for
my Mum or Sister please in the comment section below (like seriously, I have no
idea!).<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
But I did go and see the Hunger
Games: Catching Fire a couple of days after it came out and it was awesome! It
was even better as I saw it at the Sky Superscreen, which is massive! It was
sooo cool and the movie was sooo good! And really looking to the next couple of
weeks as well, Belgium next week and then Amsterdam not a few days after,
should e really good! (Albeit devastating to my bank account, which again might
seriously affect the quality of my Christmas presents…).<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
So as ever in all my blogs I like
to offer a bit of useful advice, not that I ever take my own that is. But I would just like to say in terms of
assessments, coursework etc, it’s always better to be on top of things. Don’t
be ignorant or ignore the amount of work you have to do, be realistic and force
yourself to sit down and do it! The hardest part of it is making yourself
start, once you’ve done that it will get easier. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Sooo yeah, that’s pretty much it,
will blog again in a couple of weeks with pictures from my travels!!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Bye bye!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
P.S. Eric update: Eric is
currently alive. <o:p></o:p></div>
University of Greenwichhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05879701446496502511noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2858637615937700087.post-45050688206741754982013-11-28T10:06:00.001+00:002013-11-28T10:07:18.715+00:00What else can a university offer?<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
Woo!
It’s time to get excited for I have wrote another blog…<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
As
ever I like to have a useful message in my blogs (rather than me just
rambling), in this one it’s student employment. Employment while studying is extremely
important, or at least I think so. It has several benefits, no only does it
earn you money it also stops you spending money as well (as you spend your time
working). You also get to meet new people, get new opportunities and have a
laugh. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
There
are numerous benefits to working while studying, there are also many more for
working within the university/Student’s Union. For example as I work for the
university, I get access to new and exciting opportunities. I did a First Aid certificate
last year and got paid too! I also do work for my Student’s Union which is
good, even better as I get 20% discount on food in the SU and free entry into
our night club. Honestly I love life every time I use my staff discount to get
food at the SU. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EB9eL-9wYPw/UpcVpQuZ3BI/AAAAAAAAGB8/zbKM5U0-MbQ/s1600/SUUG_Activities_Societies.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EB9eL-9wYPw/UpcVpQuZ3BI/AAAAAAAAGB8/zbKM5U0-MbQ/s200/SUUG_Activities_Societies.png" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
Working
while at University also sets you up for later life, in the sense it allows you
to gain skills, make contacts and learn things that will make you more
employable.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
Not
to harbour on about the University of Greenwich , but they are
really good for that. We have a whole department dedicated to student
employment, not only finding them work but helping them prepare for work in
terms of practising interviews and checking your CV etc.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
So
my word of advice is that when you are looking at Universities, look at what
else they can offer you in terms of employment in the future and while
studying, not just the UCAS points and where the uni is ranked. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
Hope
that’s helpful!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<o:p> </o:p> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
P.S.:
Eric update. He got himself into a bit of bother the other day. Sadly his lady
plant friend broke Eric’s poor little avocado stone heart. To help Eric through
this difficult time we have swapped his water drip for a vodka equivalent. We hope he makes a full recovery soon.<o:p></o:p></div>
University of Greenwichhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05879701446496502511noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2858637615937700087.post-42333727705123214282013-11-12T09:17:00.000+00:002013-11-12T09:17:18.016+00:00And time keeps ticking on…<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
It’s funny how the days and weeks
just fly by and all merge into one. It’s only by what lectures and what work I
have that I’m able to identify the different days. Lectures drone on and seminars drag on but
that’s just how it goes. It is important
while at university to always keep up with the assigned work and reading, to
make sure you’re on top of everything, but then that is easier said than done. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
I’m looking forward to the next
couple of months, next month especially. Not only is it Christmas, which is
good as I get a lot of presents. But
then it’s also bad as I have to buy an equal amount of presents to give, which
is a lot of stress (especially for my family who are ridiculously fussy/picky).</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
But anyway I’m looking forward to
next month as I am going to Belgium with the History department on the
battlefield trip that should be good but also slightly more excitingly when I
get back two days later I set off to Amsterdam for three nights. I have a
feeling that it will be quite messy…<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
It was my sister’s graduation
last week, she also went to Greenwich and is graduating with a First Class
degree in Psychology (woo). While this might be fantastic for her, for me it is
slightly irritating as I am now expected to match her degree and if I fail to do
so I shall be forced to suffer an eternity of mockery and gloating. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
But as ever in my blogs I like to
have a useful message. In this one it’s finance! I’m the type of student who
spends more time in their overdraft than not. So you could argue that it’s
quite hypercritical for me of all people to preach, however you also could
argue that it puts me in a useful position to give advice…<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
So my advice, to put it simply is
to <b>be aware</b>. Be aware of how much
money you have, how much money you are spending and how much money you will
need until the next long installment. I’m not going to preach about not wasting
your money going out and how you should stick to a very tight budget as I’m not
like that nor do I think that actually works. So in short, just be aware, be
sensible and then you should enough money to go out and actually buy groceries
as well <span style="font-family: Wingdings; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-char-type: symbol; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings;">J</span><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Wingdings; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-char-type: symbol; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Also part time jobs are
incredible important while at university. I’ll speak about that next time (I’ll
just let you all suffer in suspense). <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Eric update: he is still alive (I
think) and I hope someone is watering him… I wonder if it’s actually possible
to kill an avocado plant.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Until next time, <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">

Hello people! It’s been a crazy last couple of weeks since
with Fresher’s, starting my second year, working and having a social life. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Fresher’s was amazing; just a really good laugh having a
good time with good people, I really enjoyed it. It’s even better as a first
year as you don’t have any of that introductory stuff in the first week, so you
can actually get some sleep! The SU really pulled out all the stops this year
with some amazing events, including the Fresher Fairs. I now have enough free
stuff to last me for the year. There was also a big mobile rock climbing wall
at both the fairs as well, which I was responsible for running as president of
the Climbing Society. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Stuff has only recently actually start to settle down and
slot into a regular flow of things, but saying that there always is new things
and challenges every week. For example this week I've been hobbling on
crutches…Hockey, foot, painful. So
that’s been a whole barrel of laughs, although crutches are quite useful to
prod and hit people with. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Second year is strange; it’s quite difficult to adjust, just
because it is so different. For one, this year does actually count! It’s going
quite well though, well relatively so anyway. I just need to put more effort
into doing the reading instead of catching up with my favourite American shows
(Homeland, Sons of Anarchy, and The Walking Dead etc.). <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
In my blogs I always try to have a useful message (as
opposed to me just rambling on and on and on...). In this blog I’m just going
to give a quick word of advice about choosing courses. So people always say
choose what you enjoy and I can’t stress that enough. Don’t choose a subject because
you think you should do it, pick and study a subject because you want to do it
and because you have a genuine interest in that field of study. There is no point in paying £9,000 a year (in
most cases) to study a course just because you've been told to study that
course for whatever reason. It’s you who has to pay the tuition fees, you who
have to study it; therefore it should be who you pick the course. So do your
re-search, look at all the different courses offered, look into the units that
course offers and then make a well informed and a right decision <span style="font-family: Wingdings; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-char-type: symbol; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings;">J</span><o:p></o:p></div>

He’s an avocado plant, and I've been
made to blog about him by my good friend <a href="http://gre-denise.blogspot.co.uk/">http://gre-denise.blogspot.co.uk/</a>).
Like most plants, Eric likes to do plant like things. He’s likes to chill out
in the sun, soak up the rays, turn it into food and then eventually grow into an
avocado. Eric lives in our office (The Enquiry Unit) and is a valued member of
our team. We all love Eric and can’t wait to eat what he produces. Check back
for regular updates!<o:p></o:p></div>

Hello again my millions of readers (ha), this is just
another quick blog about stuff. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I thought in this blog I would say a quick point about accommodation.
As I mentioned in my previous blog I am
local to London and Greenwich is my local university, but I still decided to
move away from home. Living at home while studying works for some people, some
of my friends still live at home and they’re happy, but it’s just not for me
and you yourself have to make that decision whether or not you want to move
away from home. Halls has a lot of benefits but a few disadvantages (e.g. the
cost!) but nevertheless it is a good university experience. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Staying on the topic of halls, I know a lot of new students
have recently been placed at Avery Hill accommodation as opposed to their
choices in Greenwich. While I’m probably supposed to be impartial, trust me
when I say Avery Hill is good if not better than Greenwich. While you have to
get a 20 minute shuttle bus to and from uni (which is what I do), Avery Hill
has more students on site, a gym, tennis courts, fields, a pond and Sparrows(our
SU nightclub). And the rent is a lot cheaper as well. so for those of you who have been placed at
Avery, chill out, it is better and don’t worry! <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Now onto other things: I start second year in a few weeks
and I still have so much stuff to do. I have to move out of my Mum’s house into
halls, organise and sort out a load of stuff for Fresher’s Fair and the next
rock climbing society (which I’m president of) open day as well as go out for
my birthday next week (which will be very messy…I’m going to be 20! What a
rubbish age to be, no longer a teenager but neither an adult) and then I have
to say goodbye to all my friends who are going to uni away from London, no
doubt that will be equally as messy. So lots and lots of stuff to do, but then
again I’m the type of person who somewhat enjoys being ridiculously busy and a
couple (several) beverages. But still, busy busy busy. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Oh and a quick note about sports teams and societies are a
really good part of university, it’s an instant way to make friends and have a
laugh, if you are interested in them check out our Student Union page!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Soo yeah, that’s
another blog from me and some more senseless rambling for you to digest, all
the links are below. Hope you have a nice weekend; I’m now off for end of work
drinks, bye bye!<o:p></o:p></div>

Hello, my name is Carney and I
have just completed my first year of my History degree at the University of
Greenwich. This blog is just a general overview of what I get up to here at
University. In this entry I’m just going
to cover a few things, like about me, accommodation, my course and SU Sports
Teams & Societies and a little word about Fresher’s. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
So a little bit more information
about me first, I grew up in South East London and Greenwich has always been my
local university. I went to Greenwich as it was my insurance choice and I
failed to achieve a place and my first option. So even though Greenwich was my
second option and my local university I have really enjoyed my first year here.
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
I still moved out into Halls, I
live on Avery Hill campus (and will do so again next year) and I study on the
Greenwich campus, so I take full advantage of the free shuttle bus service to
and from class. I like living on Avery Hill as it’s cheaper, I don’t have to pay
for an ensuite (as I wouldn’t want one), plus by living on Avery Hill you are
able to meet a lot more people than you would by living there, just access to
different networks, plus living at Avery means it’s a lot less distance to walk
(crawl) home after a night out at Sparrows (our SU nightclub). I spent the year
living in a flat with shared facilities and it was pretty decent. <o:p></o:p><br />
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
So like I said I study History
and I have enjoyed the course so far. In my first year we weren’t allowed to
pick all History modules, we had to pick two other humanities electives. I
liked this as I was able to do a Philosophy and a Sociology course as well, in
addition to the two other history modules I did. This mixed it up a bit and made it more
interesting. At first it was slightly
weird adjusting to university life (academically), lectures and tutorials are
different to that of sixth form classes. Depending on the lecturer, lectures
can be really interesting and tutorials are always a laugh. It’s a lot of work having force yourself to
do your ‘homework’ when there are so many distractions, but I think I managed
to get a pretty good balance between academic work and my social life, e.g.
writing an essay in the pub. But I really like all the academics and get on
with all the people on my course. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Another substantial thing to
happen to me during my first year was joining a sports team and a society. When
I first moved into my student accommodation, I was living with three other
people, one who barely spoke any English, the other two who I just didn’t get
on with at all (don’t worry, it’s unlucky that. That was why joining a sports
team was such a good decision for me during Fresher’s Week. I joined Hockey at
the Greenwich Fresher’s Fair and it was probably one of the best decisions I
made this year. Straight away you meet so many different people, not only from
your team but from all the other sports team as well. Whenever I have spoken to
people about Sports teams and Societies, I’ve always compared them to American Fraternities
and Sororities, just without the extravagance, as that seemed the easiest way
to describe them. It’s also a really good way to keep fit and exercise. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
All teams and societies are run
by an elected student committee, so you can always get involved in the running
of it as well! For example this year I also joined rock Climbing, which is a
society, this is structured a little bit different to a sports team, but it is
still really good and has the same advantages as a sports team. All sports
teams and societies are mangled by SUUG and their web address if you wanted
more information is www.suug.co.uk. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
And finally just a quick word and
about Fresher’s Fortnight, since this is my first blog and I suspect that the
majority of people reading it (if anyone actually is) are those who are due to
start in September, just a little bit of advice: don’t be afraid. Don’t be
scared to talk to people, put yourself out there, everyone is in the same
situation and you’ll be surprised at the awesome people you’ll meet. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Until next
time, good bye! <span style="font-family: Wingdings; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-char-type: symbol; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings;">J</span><o:p></o:p></div>
